Design and manufacturing of special-purpose tools

Process special-purpose tools, as their name suggests, are designed and manufactured to facilitate production line activities.

In one of our projects, upon the client’s request, we designed and manufactured a number of special-purpose tools.

The most important principle in such products is ease of use for unskilled operators, as well as compliance with mistake-proofing principles (Poka-Yoke).

Crankshaft Turning Socket

During internal combustion engine assembly, to install the piston and connecting rod, the crankshaft must be rotated under control to allow the process to be carried out controllably. Material: CK45 with heat treatment, internal sparking, grinding, and black oxide finishing.

Long-Shank Piston and Connecting Rod Installation Wrench

A commercially available spark plug wrench was used, and a replaceable socket was designed and manufactured for it.

Guide Pin for Gearbox Installation

When installing the gearbox onto the engine, there is a risk of damaging the coupling in some models. Therefore, using a pair of temporary parts called guide pins eliminates this risk. Due to the risk of part breakage, surface hardening was applied to this component.

Angle Socket

For torquing certain bolts, according to the procedure, after reaching the initial torque, an additional rotation of 90°, 180°, or 270° is required. For this purpose, we marked the standard Force brand socket at these angles using wire-cut EDM and then color-coded it.

Seal Installation Guide Pin (Guide Pin for Oil Seal)

Oil seals on high-speed shafts are preferably installed or removed using special tools due to their sensitivity. Standard tools exist for certain oil seal sizes, but for one specific size, we had to design and manufacture the tool.
